The fire snail. Reminds me of a character in vampire movies

The fire snail (Platymma tweediei) lives only in one place in the world – in Malaysia in a mountainous area. The habitat is an area with a radius of only 100 km.

It is strictly forbidden to take them out of the country. So the authorities hope to preserve the population of this unique species, which continues to decline.

They tried to breed fire snails at home, but for unknown reasons they cannot survive. They all die in captivity. They need coolness and high humidity – such conditions exist in the mountains of Malaysia.

So far, only in Germany it has been possible to save a couple of fire snails that gave offspring.
