The garment of the future with built-in digital fiber. Is it possible?

More recently, news has surfaced that research scientists at MIT have created the world's first digital fiber that can be embedded into clothing to perform specific functions.

A dozen years ago, assumptions that this might possibly seem fantastic or simply ridiculous, but today such developments are becoming a reality of our time, just like robots entering universities and adopting the ability of people to demonstrate (or rather, copy) emotions.

First of all, the functions of digital fiber will be the collection of physiological data of the owner of the clothing to assess the state of his health (temperature, pulse, pressure, etc.), as well as fiber, and, accordingly, clothing with it will be able to store music, video and other useful files.

As MIT researchers noted in a recently published article, because their fiber is digital, it uses the 1s and 0s binary communication protocol, just like computers do. This is what sets it apart from existing electronic fibers for textiles, which are analog rather than digital.

Earlier analog fibers could only connect to one device, while newer digital fiber could connect to multiple devices and perform many different functions.

The researchers set themselves the task of trying to unite the world of devices and the world of functions and accomplish what previously seemed impossible - to harmonize a fiber that will continue to perform its main function for humans with high-tech devices.

This technology adds content and dimension to something that wasn't there before - fabric, ”said senior article author and MIT professor Joel Fink.

Scientists believe that the most popular application of this technology may be in the healthcare sector, for the diagnosis of various diseases, and they also plan to continue working on the implementation of the new technology in real programs in the modern world, where even the most bizarre inventions are taken for granted.
