Over the years, I have visited quite a few places in Tokyo and discovered quite a few things there. Even though I am still thirsty to discover new things in my favorite city, I am always drawn back to places that are already familiar to me and I am happy when I meet old acquaintances. I wouldn't want to miss the comforting feeling of finally seeing each other again and I seem to really enjoy indulging in a little nostalgia. Well, I guess that comes with age, which I inevitably have to deal with too.

One of these old acquaintances is the Tokyo Sky Tree, which isn't actually that old. On my first visit to the Japanese capital, there was no sign of this now ubiquitous Tokyo landmark, but now I seem to encounter it at every turn when I'm out and about in a particular area. And I enjoy it and am always happy when the SkyTree shows itself in new perspectives.

The best view is probably from the Sumida River on the Asakusa side, from where you can enjoy a magnificent panorama of the television tower, which was opened a year ago and appears to tower over the city at a height of 634 meters. This panorama is particularly impressive during the cherry blossom season and we were very lucky that the weather rather pleasant, at least on this one day. On the other days we had to contend with cooler temperatures and rain, but that didn't spoil our mood.

We don't get to Tokyo very often, so we have to make the most of this special opportunity. And for us, that includes waving at the Sky Tree and simply enjoying the fact that it exists and stands exactly where it does. That may sound mundane, and perhaps it is. But we enjoy it and it does us good. And to be honest, there is no better reason to enjoy the moment.

So I'll wave goodbye once again and look forward to our next meeting, which hopefully won't be too long in coming. Hope and anticipation - that's something to build on...
