Although it usually looks rather gray and gloomy outside these days, you shouldn't be fooled. If you take a closer look, you will quickly discover that even in this cold and dark season, there are still plenty of things growing. And not just in the fields, where you can still find a whole host of mostly green winter vegetables. Sometimes it also shines in places where you wouldn't expect it.
I've just been surprised again myself. During our last visit to our relatives, we discovered two small bushes behind the shed with small orange fruits hanging from them. A closer look immediately confirmed that we really were dealing with mandarins, which were apparently just waiting to be picked.
Well, we were happy to do them this favor, as we had also obtained extra permission for this task. After all, we didn't want to eat anything away from anyone.
We then picked three small fruits, which were clearly identifiable as mandarins. We were now very curious to see whether they would also pass the tasting test, which we did immediately afterwards. The mandarins smelled exactly as they should, but were a little more sour than we were used to from the fruit you could buy in the stores. Nevertheless, it was great fun to be able to eat mandarins straight from the bush.
