The Polkadot Network & Substrate
Another option for Aviatrix and Scorum is the Polkadot Web 3 ecosystem utilizing Substrate. Polkadot Polkadot strives to unite and secure specialized blockchains called "parachains" in order to create a vast Web 3 ecosystem. All of the apps and services operating on Polkadot can securely communicate across these parachains, thus each working together to form a truly interoperable and decentralized web experience. Advantages of migrating to Polkadot using Substrate Polkadot enables cross-blockchain transfers of both data and assets, which creates an unparalleled opportunity for interoperability between different types of blockchains. Polkadot provides scalability by spreading transactions across multiple blockchains speeding up settlement times as well as lowering costs by utilizing one common set of validators. It is super easy to build on using its Substrate framework. A new, specialized, blockchain can be created in minutes using Substrate that would be fully interoperable and secure at the moment of launch. On Polkadot unique blockchains can interoperate and pass information and assets back and forth securely and yet remain completely independent of each other when it comes to governance and operation. Potential Disadvantages of Migrating to Polkadot Although the new Scorum Substrate built blockchain would be self governing on chain, we would still lose some of our autonomy and independence due to shared security and transactions. The Polkadot governance system is designed to be fully decentralized, but decisions made by the Polkadot governing board could have a profound effect on the Scorum parachain. Substrate Substrate enables developers to quickly and easily build future proof blockchains optimized for any use case. There are over 150 Parachains currently operating in the Polkadot Ecosystem. Some of the most notable projects include; Band Protocol Band Protocol is a cross-chain data oracle platform that aggregates and connects real-world data and APIs to smart contracts ChainLink ChainLink is a decentralized oracle network that provides real-world data to smart contracts on the blockchain. Energy Web Foundation Energy Web is accelerating a low-carbon, customer-centric electricity system by enabling any energy asset owned by any customer to participate in any energy market. Enjin Enjin is a scalable, decentralized, cross-chain network designed to bring non-fungible tokens to everyone. Kusama Network Kusama is a scalable multi-chain network for radical innovation and early stage Polkadot deployments. Obsidian Labs Obsidian Labs is a global blockchain technology company focused on developer tools and enterprise solutions Ontology The Ontology project is an open source blockchain that specializes in digital identity and decentralized data management. Origin Trail OriginTrail is an ecosystem dedicated to making global supply chains work together by enabling a universal, collaborative and trusted data exchange. Polymath The security token technology that lets broker-dealers bring creation, issuance, and management to their clients on the blockchain. Ren Project Ren is an open protocol that enables the permissionless and private transfer of value between any blockchain. SushiSwap SushiSwap is an automated market making (AMM) decentralized exchange (DEX) being built on top of Moonbeam. xx network xx network is a fast, low-fee quantum-ready layer 1 Substrate based blockchain built in tandem with the most private communications network in the world (cMix). Founded by the godfather of digital currency and privacy technology David Chaum, the xx network mainnet launched in November 2021 My Comments on Polkadot As you can see from this long list of well known projects that have all gained a high level of adoption there is a lot of added benefits to moving to the Polkadot Network. I have personally used or invested in many of the projects in this list so there are a lot of things about Polkadot that I would already be familiar with. But are parachains and a governance system like is found on Polkadot the way of the future and what we are looking for as the future of Scorum? Will Polkadot be able to scale to the level of mass adoption where billions of transactions will be occurring daily? I really don't know the answers to these questions but I do know that these are the type answers the Scorum team is looking for in their search for a new home. My thought is that Polkadot would be great for Scorum in the short term and it would immediately impact our interoperability with some of the top projects in Web 3, but I'm not convinced that it is the best technology for the long term. Although I have to say, a lot of people much smarter than me and with much more technical experience have settled on Polkadot, and that speaks pretty loudly about the work they are doing.
