Found me a handful of nuts
Most people are probably like me. When I'm hungry, I open the fridge and take out some food that we have previously bought in one of the many stores that specialize in selling groceries. There is nothing wrong with shopping in the supermarket and the majority of people, especially in the big cities, do the same. Every now and then you might go to the local market or the small store just around the corner, but very few people I know still grow their own food. And I also admit that it tastes much better if you cultivate food yourself. Unfortunately, most people don't have the time or the opportunity to do this and we end up going to the supermarket. But every now and then we do have the chance to get something really fresh. For example, nuts that you can pick directly from the tree or collect from underneath. Here and there you can find nut trees in public spaces where anyone can help themselves. And if you come at the right time, there will be a few nuts left for you to take home. As I said, you can also buy nuts. But if you have brought home a handful of fresh hazelnuts from your walk and crack them yourself, you will notice that they taste completely different. Perhaps not always better than the nuts from the store, but you can taste a very special freshness and a natural flavor that you miss with many products in the supermarket these days. And then there's the fun of looking for and picking the nuts. It's almost like picking mushrooms from the forest in the fall. The mushroom hunt is part of the whole thing and, at least for us, puts us in a really good mood. It was the same thing with these hazelnuts, and this good mood lasted long after the nuts had disappeared into our tummies. Fortunately, from time to time it is possible to repeat this fun, at least at the right time of year. And that's why I'm quite optimistic that our nutcracker will have something to do from now and then in the future too. Which I'm really looking forward to...
